: Hi there! I'm trying to figure out what I hope is basic information that is simply eluding me. Does anyone here know where the poor parts of town were, or maybe where you would see a greater quantity of homeless people, in the years leading up to the 1906 earthquake? As I understand it, Nob Hill and Van Ness were on the wealthier side (please correct me if I am wrong), but I haven't been able to pinpoint where poor people and homeless people lived in SF during that time. I'm just trying to get a general feel for the layout of the city in terms of society. Thanks for the help!
Yes it was then and is now the Tenderloin district.
