Hi! I'm a writer working on a book set in the Sacramento Valley in 1910. I have two characters who are taking out a marriage license. Does anyone know if there was a waiting period associated with this process? Did it differ from place to place (e.g., Sacramento or SF?) -- if their intention is to be married quickly, would they derive any benefit from getting a license from a particular office?

Any help anyone can provide, or resources you can point me to, would be appreciated!
