The cryptic notes for the firm in the 1850 directory "San b P and J" and for Alex Cross of Cross & Hobson "San b Pac & Jackson" likely mean Sansome between Pacific and Jackson which clears up the firm's location, at least.
: Hi,
: Can anyone tell me anything about Cross & Co, who were merchants in SF & Valparaiso, Chile before, during & after the gold rush? The little I have found says their location was at Jackson & Pacific Streets, but these do not intersect, they are parallel. There is a tenuous relationship (by marriage) between the Cross's & my own family and any info you could give me would assist greatly with research I am doing.
: Regards,
