I've just read the fabulous gilded age love letter "Champagne Days of San Francisco", and find myself with two burning questions:

1) Who was Evelyn Wells (the author)? I can't find a thing online.

2) The book features three nameless charactors; the Senator, the Banker, and the Judge. Do you know if they were based on real people? Certainly seems likely ...

(also: why oh why did she not list a bibliography of sources? :)
