Today Philip Rourke is busy attending to details in settling the estate of his aunt and foster mother, Mrs. Mary Spiegel, who has bequeathed him $65,000, a like amount going to his brother, Patrick Rourke, of San Francisco.
Mrs. Spiegel died last week at the age 84 years here. She came to San Rafael about a year ago with her nephew, Philip, clerk in the San Francisco post office, to make her home. She was the widow of one of San Francisco’s best known characters. He was the owner of Spiegel’s livery stables which were located where the San Francisco ferry post office now is.
Mrs. Spiegel adopted Philip and Patrick Rourke, after the death of their mother, her sister. Patrick Rourke is now making his home with Jules Risso, 12 Latham street. Rourke’s wife is visiting with relatives in France.
