Died
SUTHERLAND – In Olema, October 13th, of typhoid fever, Edgar G. Sutherland, of Berrien County, Michigan, aged 23 years.

Olema Notes
With sadness we write of the sudden death of Edgar G. Sutherland, nephew of Mrs. John Nelson. He had been complaining of pain in his limbs, but thought it was rheumatism, from which he would speedily recover, but on the 8th instant he took to his bed. Dr. Dutton was called and pronounced the disease typhoid fever. It was apparent from the first that the disease was malignant in type, and although everything was done to aid the sufferer, he died on the morning of the 13th. Dying in full strength with such a disease, it was necessary to hurry the interment, which took place on Sunday, the 14th, Rev. Mr. Alexander officiating. Born in Berrien County, Michigan, where his parents, brothers and sisters no reside, he came to California about two years ago. Full of vigor, the very personification of health, greatly respected by all who knew him for his many noble virtues, his sudden taking away has cast a deep gloom upon the entire community. Much sympathy is expressed for his parents so far away, and the earnest wish is that the stroke may be so tempered that they can bear resignedly the irreparable loss of so loving and lovable a son, so noble and manly a boy.
