Robbed and Left on Track to Die
Charles McNaughten, a gardener formerly employed by W. W. Foster, is dying at the Cottage Hospital in this city as a result of an encounter with footpads near Kentfield last night. McNaughten was beaten into unconsciousness and robbed by two men and then left on the railroad tracks. He was later struck by a northbound train, receiving injuries from which little hope is held out by the attending physicians for his recovery.
McNaughten’s story is as follows: “I was walking along the railroad tracks a few hundred feet north of the station at Kentfield. Two men came upon me and while one choked me, the other rifled my pockets. Then the pair beat me almost into unconsciousness and left me in the center of the track. I could not move and but half realized my danger. Then the train struck me and tossed me into the air.”
Drs. Wickman and Jones, who attended him, say he will probably not recover.
