Evelyn Corda, dairy family matriarch
Evelyn F. Corda of Novato, the matriarch of a Marin dairy family and a survivor of the 1956 sinking of the Andrea Doria off New England, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 1990, in Grass Valley. She had become ill Saturday while closing her vacation home in Sierra City. She was 88.
Mrs. Corda was born in Sonoma County at Reclamation, north of Black Point. She was one of 12 children of the pioneer Sartori family. After her marriage in 1922 to Alfred D. Corda, the couple settled on the family ranch west of Novato.
She was a member of Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato, Italian Catholic Federation Branch No. 16 in San Rafael, North Bay Dairy Women and the Native Daughters of the Golden West No. 222 of Petaluma.
Mrs. Corda is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Russell of Penngrove and Dorothy Nadale of Petaluma; two sons, Joseph A. Corda of Novato and Lester Corda of Petaluma; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Elsie Corry, Edna Corda, Josephine Bragga and Dorothy Marcucci, all of Petaluma, and Helen Eaton of Seattle.
Her husband, Alfred D. Corda, died Nov. 17, 1972.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wedneday at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. Private entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael. Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma.
Her family asked that memorial contributions go to the Sierra City Volunteer Fire Department, Highway 49, Sierra City, 96125, or a favorite charity.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that she was the grandmother of Kenneth Carli of Petaluma, Ronald Carli of Santa Rosa, Lynne Goodfellow of Novato, Lori Gomes of Petaluma, Fred and Gary Corda of Novato, Jolene Rossotti of Petaluma, Mary Ann Cooley of Cheney, WA, Gene, Gerald, Thomas, Joyce, and Susie Corda, all of Petaluma, Judy Buttke of Sebastopol, Pam Nadale of Greenbrae, Shari Nadale De Santis, Rick Nadale of Petaluma, Marc Nadale of Cotati and the late Dennis Nadale. She was also the sister of the late Flora Pozzi, Simon Sartori, Isabel Ramatici, Victor Sartori, Ralph Sartori and Ernest Sartori.
