GEORGE W. REED

A funeral for George W. Reed of San Rafael, a Marin resident for more than 30 years and a retired masonry contractor, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Monte’s Mission Chapel in San Rafael.

Reed died Oct. 13 at a local hospital. He was 84.

He was a native of San Francisco and lived there until moving to Marin in about 1948.

His father was in the construction business and Reed started his own business, George Reed Associates, when he was 16.

He served as a masonry contractor on many major projects in San Francisco including the Bank of American building, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Pacific Telephone building and many government office buildings.

He retired about 10 years ago. He was married for many years to Laura Reed, who died in 1968.

He was a member of the Golden West Lodge No. 455 of the Free and Accepted Masons in San Francisco, the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco and the Marin Yacht Club. He was past president of the San Francisco Builders Exchange and the Tyee Club of San Francisco, a group concerned with preserving the bay.

He is survived by a daughter, Joyce M. Pritchett of San Rafael; a sister, Daisy Roemer of Daly City; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

The family prefers memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
