Funeral Held For Former Service Man
Funeral services were held Monday for Lorenzo Bellantoni, former service man and well known here, whose untimely end came last Thursday night when he committed suicide following a period of despondency over ill health.
The body was found by H. G. Ridgway, of the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, near his residence, There was a bullet hole in the breast above the heart and near the body was a .32 caliber revolver.
Ever quiet and reserved, “Chappie,” as Bellantoni was known, had few confidants, and whatever troubled his mind and led to his fatal act was known only to himself. He lived in a one-room building on C street between Fifth and Sixth.
“Chappie” was a member of Company D for many years and was a volunteer for service overseas. He also served as a volunteer on the Mexican border. He was 40 years of age. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. Bready, and a half-brother, both of San Mateo.
Services were held at St. Raphael’s Church Monday morning and burial in Mount Olivet cemetery. A cortege comprising friends and admirers accompanied the remains from the F. E. Sawyer Parlors to the church. Representing Company D and the Ex-Service Men’s Memorial Organization were Major N. F. Vanderbilt, Emerson McNally, John Sheehy, Leo Andrade, Joseph Fallon, William Hart and John Walker.
The Fire Department, of which the deceased had been a member for many years, was represented by Fire Chief ____(torn paper) , Captain William Kane, An___, Thomas Wall, Charles___, Felix Sais.
___were L. C. Brooks, Arthur Coutts, William Vaning, Arthur Vaning, Percy Foley and Sam Perinoni.
