Painter Drowned At Black Point
John S. Spang, a painter, was drowned last Saturday afternoon at Black Point while painting underneath the bascule bridge.
According to reports of the tragedy Spang and two or three other workmen were on a float which they were moving to a new position. Spang fell overboard. One of the men threw a rope which Spang failed to grasp.
Coroner J. Ray Keaton was notified and aided by Spang’s companions, he found the body within a short time and removed it to the morgue in San Rafael. It was later shipped to San Francisco.
Spang was 23 years of age and is survived by a widow and two children. He was employed by the Mohr Painting Company.
