Remains Identified By Brother Of Man

The belief that the man whose body was found Saturday on the shore of Angel Island was the victim of foul play was discarded Monday night when the remains were identified by relatives as Karl Filip Youngberg and the circumstances of his disappearance related.

The body was discovered by soldiers, and when taken in charge by Deputy Coroner William Sorensen it was found that the feet were bound together by wire, the arms were bound to the body and a belt was buckled tightly round the neck.

Accounts of the finding of the body published in the San Francisco papers brought many inquiries. Alex Youngberg called at Coroner Keaton’s office Monday night and positively identified the remains as those of his brother, aged 28 years, who left the home at 706A Central avenue January 7 in search of work as a cabinetmaker. He did not return. Since arriving in San Francisco from Sweden last June the young man had been constantly looking for work. Of late he had been noticeably despondent.

It is believed by the brother that the young man, determined to end his life and to prevent an involuntary struggle, bound his feet, tied a rope about his waist and then, after pulling the strap encircling his neck, shoved his hands through the rope belt and leaped into the water. The body was turned over to the brother.
