Death Calls For Former Official

Jacob Gardner, at different times in earlier years holding the offices of sheriff and member of the board of supervisors of Marin county, passed away January 4 at his home in Mill Valley at the age of 75 years.

He had been ill for several months and confined to his home. The funeral was held this morning in San Francisco and the interment was private.

Mr. Gardner served as a county official in the early eighties, leaving office with an honorable record and retiring to private life in his pretty Mill Valley home. He came to this State as a young man from Massachusetts and had lived here continuously for 57 years.

He was the husband of Mrs. Annie G. Gardner, and father of Mrs. John Burt and the late Georgina Gardner Burt. He was an uncle of Supervisor Casper J. Gardner. For many years he had been a member of Mount Tamalpais Lodge No. 399, I.O.O.F., and took a keen interest in its affairs.
