OLAF JOHNSON

A funeral for Olaf Johnson, retired Corte Madera contractor, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Daphne Funerals of Main, Corte Madera.

Johnson died Saturday at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 86.

A native of Iceland, Johnson had been a school teacher there. He came to the United States in the early 1920s and became a building contractor. Johnson built many subdivisions in Northern California and as far south as Palm Springs.

Johnson retired in 1955 to live in Madera Gardens, the last subdivision he and his partners built.

Johnson maintained his ties with his native land and was active in the Icelandic-American Society and a Norwegian choral group.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Johnson of Corte Madera; a daughter, Eleen Morissette of Corte Madera; a son, Roland Johnson of San Rafael; a brother, Joseph Johnson of San Francisco; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be at Brekka Cemetery in Iceland. The family prefers contributions to Hospice of Marin.
