JOHN PEPPER
John Raymond Pepper of San Rafael, a Marin resident for more than 60 years and a longtime RCA employee, died today at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Pepper was a native of Marysville, Yuba County, and moved to Bolinas when he was 15.
He went to work at the RCA transmitting station in Bolinas in about 1923 and worked there for 43 years, retiring in 1966. He was a cable supervisor when he retired.
He moved from Bolinas to Lucas Valley with his wife, Maxine, in 1972. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Bolinas and also a member of the Volunteer Fire Department.
Pepper was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Altanirano of Hayward and Jane Stevenson of Incline Village, Nev.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.
The family prefers memorial donations to Hospice of Marin, 77 Mark Drive, San Rafael or the Sister Patrick Memorial Fund, care of Dominican College, San Rafael.
