Sad News Comes To L. F. Douglass

Leon F. Douglass received the sad information last Sunday that his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Fuller Douglass, had passed away at her home in Brooklyn, New York. She was 83 years of age and but for the recent and fatal attack of pneumonia she had enjoyed remarkably good health in her later life.

Of her six children, of whom Leon F. Douglass is the youngest, five still survive, three daughters and two sons.

Simultaneously with the funeral services to be held in the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Chicago tomorrow at 10 o’clock, memorial services will be held here at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

To the day of her death Mrs. Douglass evinced a keen interest in Mr. Douglass’ mechanical and scientific achievements, communicating with him in San Rafael from her Brooklyn home constantly.

She was the daughter of an old New England family and traced her ancestry to the Mayflower Pilgrims. Early in her girlhood she crossed the plains to Nebraska, where she grew to womanhood and became the wife of Seymour J. Douglass. Her husband enlisted at the commencement of the Civil War and attained the rank of an officer in the commissary department. He died in 1895 as a result of battle wounds received in that great conflict.
