CHESTER R. BERNARD

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Daphne Funerals-Marin mortuary in Tamalpais Valley for Chester R. Bernard of Mill Valley.

Mr. Bernard died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1987, at Marin General Hospital following a brief illness. He was 77.

He was born in Norton County, Kansas, and was a graduate of Kansas University. He lived in many parts of the United States, including 25 years in Denver. About 10 years ago, he retired and moved to Mill Valley.

Mr. Bernard had owned businesses that sold and serviced office machines.

He also was an amateur musician who played clarinet and saxophone in symphony orchestras in the Denver area.

In that region, he was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and belonged to the El Jebel chapter of the Shriners organization.

In Marin, he was a noted bridge player and was active in the Whistlestop Senior Citizens Center and Goldenaires.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Wilson and Betsy Putterman, both of Mill Valley; a son, Richard Bernard of San Rafael; and three grandchildren. His wife, Virginia, died in 1981.

His ashes will be spread on family property in Kansas.
