JOHN WARD
John Terrance Ward, a Sausalito native and founder of the Sausalito Yacht Club’s Junior Sailing program, died Thursday at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Menlo Park. He was 68.
Mr. Ward was educated in Marin County and graduated from Tamalpais High School and College of Marin.
After enrolling at the University of California at Davis, he joined the Army and served in World War II.
He retired as a lieutenant colonel and remained active in the Army Reserve, serving as provost marshal of the 91st Division at the Presidio in San Francisco.
Mr. Ward was past president of the Rotary Club of Sausalito. As a member of the Sausalito Yacht Club he initiated the Junior Sailing program, which remains active today.
He is survived by two sons, P. J. Ward of Almador (sic) County and John T. Ward Jr. of Tahoe City, Nev.; a daughter, Patricia Ward of San Rafael; and three stepchildren.
A memorial service is pending.
The family prefers that contributions be made to the Sausalito Yacht Club, Junior Sailing program, or Hospice of the South Bay.

A Death Notice in the same paper spells his middle name Terence. It adds that he was the son of Herbert and Margaret Ward, and brother of Margaret Ward Monroe. Survivors are children John T. of Tahoe City, Patricia E. of San Rafael, P. J. of Chester and his step-children John Jay Slattery of Mill Valley and Shelia Slattery Smith of San Jose.
