W. A. Cassidy Passes Away After Accident

W. A. Cassidy, familiarly known in San Rafael and the northern part of Marin county as “Billy” Cassidy, succumbed Saturday night to the injuries he received in an auto accident last week just north of Novato. His death occurred at the Novato Sanatarium (sic), where he was taken immediately after his machine turned over and threw him and his companion, C. W. Lenander, over an embankment.

The funeral was held in Petaluma Tuesday and the remains interred in the family plot at Cypress Hill cemetery, where rest the parents with whom he came to California in 1858. For years he had been employed as an expert orchardist with the Novato Land Company, but a short time age he had been conducting a poultry ranch of his own near Novato. Mr. Cassidy was 66 years old and unmarried. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Webster, of Ponoma (sic), and a brother, Albert H. Cassidy, of Alameda. The funeral was largely attended by his Novato and Petaluma friends. He was a member of the old Petaluma Guard and an exempt fireman of the Petaluma Volunteers.

C. W. Lenader, who was with the deceased at the time of the accident, suffered three broken ribs, and it is reported that a fear is entertained that his recovery will not be rapid.
