BRIAN C. McCARTHY
A Mass of Christian Burial for Brian C. McCarthy, a former member of the Army’s presidential honor guard and Novato High School wrestling coach, will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Novato.
Mr. McCarthy, 32, died Friday at Fort Miley Hospital in San Francisco after a long illness.
He was born in San Rafael.
He served in the Army as a member of the honor guard of the Old Guard, Third Infantry, President’s Own at Fort Myer, Va.
McCarthy, who was studying for a master’s degree in business administration at San Francisco State University, coached the 1983-84 Novato High wrestling team.
He was a graduate of Our Lady of Loretto Elementary School and San Marin High School. After completing undergraduate work in business administration, he graduated cum laude from San Francisco State University.
He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Frances McCarthy of Novato, two brothers, Patrick McCarthy of Novato and Daniel V. McCarthy, Jr. of Sacramento; and two sisters, Deirdre Cullens and Maura Lehman, both of Novato.
A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Keaton’s Chapel of Marin in Novato.
The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
