Sister Mary Rites Conducted in Arizona
Funeral services were held today in Tucson, Arizona, for Sister MARY ALOYSIUS (MURRAY) of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
The nun was a member of an old and highly respected San Rafael family. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Murray and is survived by 3 sisters, the Misses Elizabeth and Margaret Murray of San Rafael, and Mrs. Marie E. McCue of Oakland.
Sister Aloysius, who was born and reared in San Rafael, was graduated from St. Raphael's School and Dominican Convent. She entered the sisterhood in 1904 and taught school in Oxnard, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. She then studied Braille and assisted Msgr. William F. Reilly in instructing the hard of hearing in San Francisco and Berkeley.
She celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 1956. That was the year she became seriously ill and was flown to Tucson for hospitalization and treatment at the sisters' hospital.
Funeral services were held in the Sisters Chapel. Interment was in Tucson Cemetery.
