Mr. Purcell was president of the Western Asbestos Co., where he worked 50 years.

He was a native of San Francisco and survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. He later had a summer home in Larkspur.

His wife, Bernetta Purcell, died previously.

In addition to his son, he is survived by a daugher, Peggy Margiotta of Cupertino; another son, Charles Clark of Petaluma; two sisters, Edith Boriolo of Guerneville and Rose Giannini of San Francisco; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Stephen’s Church in San Francisco.
