GEORGE S. CARDOZA

George S. Cardoza of Petaluma, a longtime dairyman, died Wednesday at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 67.

A native of Danville, Mr. Cardoza was reared in Novato and got his start there in the dairy business with his late father, John S. Cardoza.

He started his first dairy on Tubbs Island and in 1938 moved to the Lake Ranch of Lakeville Highway which he operated until his retirement three years ago.

His son, Marvin Cardoza, now runs the family dairy.

Mr. Cardoza was a member of St. James Church of Petaluma, the Nicasio parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Portugese lodges in Novato and Sausalito, the Holy Ghost Society of Petaluma, Druids of Novato and Petaluma and the Young Men’s Institute.

In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife, Vera C. Cardoza of Petaluma; a daughter, Diana Bussmann of Sixes, Ore.; his mother, Palmira Cardoza of Petaluma; a brother, John S. Cardoza Jr. of Petaluma; and six grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Petaluma. Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma. Entombment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Petaluma.

The family prefers that contributions be made to the building fund of St. James Church, 125 North Ely Road, Petaluma, 94952.
