J. Collins Meets Accidental Death
Jeremiah Collins, employed for many years by the Cheda Company at the warehouses, met a sudden and terrible death Monday afternoon while at work in the hay warehouse on San Rafael canal.
With other employees Collins was taking the hay from the storage house. Men were moving the heavy bales from an upper tier and shoving it over the edge to the floor below. Collins, who was removing the bales to the outside, walked along beneath the men above just as a bale was shoved over the edge and was struck down. He was rendered unconscious. An ambulance was called and he was removed to the Cottage Hospital, where he died about two hours later from hemorrhage of the brain caused by the terrible blow received on the head.
The unfortunate man had worked for his employers for a long time and had merited and received the great confidence he had inspired. Although but 42 years of age, he leaves a large family of six (sic) sons, most of whom are well grown. Besides his widow, Mrs. Rose Collins, he is survived by Thomas E., Edward P., James G., Stephen A., George S., William H. and Robert D. Collins, sons. He was the father also of the late Charles Collins. His birthplace was County Cork, Ireland.
