Stratton, Known Here, Commits Suicide

Frederick S. Stratton, Collector of the Port of San Francisco for 12 years, a prominent politician, and quite well known in San Rafael, ended a three months’ illness from mental and nervous trouble Tuesday by committing suicide in Pleasanton. He had been confined there in a sanatorium, but was said by physicians attending him to be recovering.

Stratton’s illness manifested itself shortly after his engagement to wed Mrs. Erminia Dargie, widow of an Oakland publisher, was denied by the woman.

Securing a revolver Tuesday Stratton sought seclusion in the woods back of the sanatorium and shot himself through the head.
