EVELYN B. MANGELS

Evelyn B. Mangels of San Rafael, a longtime Marin resident, died Tuesday at her home. She was 88.

Mrs. Mangels, a second-generation native of San Francisco, had lived in Marin since 1929. She was a descendant of Mary, Queen of Scots; Col. Pelig Slade, who fought in the Revolutionary War; and Abraham Lincoln.

Mrs. Mangels was past president of the Tamalpais Women’s Club and the Kentfield School Parent-Teacher Association.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Women’s Association, First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael and the Thursday Musical Club.

Her late husband, Hermann N. Mangels, was former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

Survivors are a daughter, Dorothy M. De La Montanya of San Rafael; a brother, George Brownridge of Vallejo; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. Entombment will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.
