Mill Valley Girl Dies In Flames

A sad accident occurred Saturday afternoon at Mill Valley which resulted in the death by burning of little Amy Edith Symes, the four-year-old daughter of Russell Symes, formerly of San Rafael.

The little girl, with her six year old brother Jamie had been left in the house by the mother for a few moments while the latter stepped down the street to a store. In her absence the children secured a box of matches. According to the incoherent statement of the little boy they lit the matches and the younger child’s clothing caught fire. The screams of the boy were heard by the neighbors, who rushed to the house, but too late to save the child’s life.

When Dr. O. P. Stowe reached the residence the little one was dead. The parents were heart broken over the sad affair.

Until a few years ago Symes and his wife resided in San Rafael, where he worked as a plumber. The funeral was held Monday.
