Sudden Death of Mrs. A. E. Kent

The death of Mrs. A. E. Kent which occurred at Ogden, Monday evening March 16th, at 6 p.m., while on her way east to visit her son Congressman Wm. Kent in Washington, has caused great sorrow to her relatives and many friends.

Mr. Kent was among the early settlers of Marin county, arriving here in 1869 and followed by his wife and family in the early 70’s, whose home had been in Chicago for many years.

On their arrival in San Rafael they lived for some time on Petaluma avenue, when they purchased their beautiful place in Kentfield, where Mrs. Kent had lived for nearly forty years, endearing herself to many through her kindness, not only in our community, but elsewhere. She was a great lover of little children and many a child now grown to man and womanhood can think of many a kindness received at the hands of Mrs. Kent, who only to know her was to love her.

She was accompanied on her trip east by her niece Miss McCoy, who expected to be with her aunt while she was in Washington, and in making the trip.

The high altitude in crossing the Rocky mountains affected her so it was necessary to remove her to a hospital in Ogden, where she passed away.

Shortly before her departure for the East Mrs. Kent was given a reception in honor of her eightieth birthday, by the ladies of Kentfield and community, at the Tamalpais Centre, which now stand as a monument of her kindness, will be greatly appreciated in the future as well as the past, by those who have been greatly benefitted in many ways.

The funeral will be held in Chicago, Friday (tomorrow) at three o’clock.

A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Mrs. A. E. Kent at Tamalpais Centre, Kentfield, next Sunday at 3:45 p.m. Those desiring to attend from San Rafael will take the 3.27 train.
