ARTHUR F. MORAES

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday for Arthur F. Moraes, 70, of San Anselmo, who died Thursday at home.

Moraes, a member of a longtime Marin family, was former owner of Fairfax Garbage Disposal.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 8 p.m. at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anselm’s Church in San Anselmo.

Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael.

The son of Mill Valley dairy rancher Louis Moraes, he worked on the family ranch once located where the East Blithedale Avenue highway interchange now stands.

He was born in Mill Valley and attended Tamalpais High School.

In 1937 he married Ada Traverso, who died in 1980. He went to work for Fairfax Garbage Disposal and bought the company in 1951. He recently sold his interest in the firm to relatives.

He was an active member of the Fairfax Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West, I.D.E.S. of Sausalito, Italian Catholic Federation of Fairfax and Sons of Italy of San Rafael.

He is survived by three sisters, Hazel Mello of Muir Beach, Tessie Mancebo of Santa Rosa and Dorothy Williams of Kona, Hawaii, and a brother, Louis W. Moraes of Novato.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
