JOSEPH S. MOREDA

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph S. Moreda, a longtime Petaluma dairyman, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Church, Petaluma.

Moreda died Sunday at a local convalescent hospital after a short illness. He was 81.

He was born and reared in Nicasio and had operated a dairy ranch for more than 30 years in Chileno Valley. He later moved the operation to the Lakeville area of Petaluma where it has been for more than 20 years.

Moreda was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Petaluma Eagles Lodge and the I.D.E.S. Portuguese society.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Pacheco Moreda of Petaluma; five sons, William and Stanley Moreda of Petaluma, Joseph and Frank Moreda of Santa Rosa, and Clarence Moreda of Yerrington, Nev.; four brothers, John, Tony, Manuel and Frank Moreda, all of Petaluma; two sisters, Mary Peterson and Julia Geils of Petaluma; and 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. today at the Sorensen Funeral Home, Petaluma. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Petaluma.

Contributions may be made to the St. James Church building fund or to a favorite charity.
