WILLIAM VOORHEIS

William S. Voorheis, 85, of 2023 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, died last night at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Flint, Mich., he came to Marin County 33 years ago and had been active in Marin Senior Association, Inc., serving as its first president in 1953. Voorheis received an honorable mention award in the 1966 Outstanding Senior citizen contest. He was honored for his long faithful service to the association, and was termed “a dedicated man who makes life pleasanter for the older people.”

An enthusiastic gardener, he often brought flowers to decorate the refreshment tables and made sure they would brighten the lives of members living in apartments with no garden space.

Voorheis, who had been self-employed as a carpenter, built shelves and did repair work in various senior citizen meeting places throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann Voorheis, and a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Leister of Lake Tahoe, Nev.
