LEO SPILLES
Leo N. Spilles, 70, of 704 Del Mar Avenue, Novato, died today in Novato Hospital after a short illness.
Spilles was born in Whitemore, Iowa, April 12, 1892. He worked as a hardware salesman throughout the Midwest most of his life. He moved to San Rafael 12 years ago and to Novato six years ago. He was employed as a real estate salesman for Bellucci Realty in Novato at the time of his death. He previously had worked as a real estate salesman for John Novak in Novato.
He was a member of the American Expeditionary Force in France in World War I. He served in the Argonne, St. Mihiel and Muese-Argonne campaigns.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Hudson of Novato; a sister, Mrs. Anna Poirot of Minnesota, a brother Frank of Iowa; and two grandchildren.
The recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Redwood Chapel Funeral Home. A requiem high mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. Interment will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.
