WILLIS M. FORBES

A funeral for Willis M. Forbes, 75, a longtime resident of Mill Valley, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley.

He died at a local hospital Sunday.

He was born in Mill Valley and lived in the city most of his life. After graduating from Tamalpais High School, he worked on his father’s ranch in Lincoln, Placer County, for several years, helping grow oranges, olives and grapes.

He met his wife, Hazel, who was from Grass Valley, while working on the ranch. She died in 1978.

After working for his father, he returned to Mill Valley and went to work for Ostlund and Johnson Cabinet Manufacturing in San Francisco. He later bought the company with his two brothers and renamed it Forbes Manufacturing Co. He was the sole owner of the firm after his brothers died. He operated it until retiring about three or four years ago.

Forbes’ father and grandfather also had operated a cabinet manufacturing business in San Francisco.

He was a member of Mill Valley Masonic Lodge No. 356, the San Francisco Rotary Club No. 2 and the Sierra Club of San Francisco.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan M. Valenzuela of Mill Valley and Deanna M. Forbes of Menlo Park; a sister, Elizabeth Wright of Mill Valley; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family prefers memorial gifts to the Hospice of Marin, 77 Mark Drive, Suite No. 6, San Rafael, Calif., 94903, or to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.
