RALPH MATHEWS

Private funeral for Ralph Berkley Mathews, 87, of Belvedere, was held today at Halsted and Company mortuary, San Francisco.

Mathews, of 5 Barn Road, died yesterday at his home after an illness.

A native of Missouri, he had lived in California 71 years and moved to Belvedere three years ago. A Stanford University graduate, he was a clerk for 30 years for the Home Insurance Company before retiring.

He was a life member of the Stanford Alumni Association, a 60-year member of the Salinas Elks Lodge, and a member of the Stanford Electrical Engineers Association and the Association of Electrical Engineers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth E. Mathews of Belvedere; two sons, Dr. Benton D. Mathews of Belvedere and Berkley Mathews of Los Gatos; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A Death Notice in the same paper names his grandchildren: Stephen M., Peter G., William B., Joseph D., Priscilla, Daniel, Elizabeth, John and Thomas Mathews. He was the great-grandfather of Kelly and Kathryn Mathews.
