Printer Drowned in Greenbrae Slough

After heroically saving the lives of 2 people, a girl and a boy, from the treacherous waters of the Greenbrae Slough, at dawn Sunday morning, LOUIS P. MATLI, 22 year old typographer of San Francisco, was overcome and drowned there, while the 2 victims, whom he had saved, were helped aboard and treated for submersion, Matli having been overlooked in the excitement of helping aboard the victims and reviving them.

Two of the young people, Katherine Reilly and William Tobin, decided to get into a smaller boat for a row and while being lowered by a rope from the yacht "Tyee" in which a party of 6 of the young people were aboard, it somehow, did not hold and they were plunged into the water.

Matli dived in after them and then was drowned himself.

A search which lasted hours, finally disclosed the body washed ashore, near San Quentin Prison, shortly after 6 a.m. They carried the body to the San Quentin Hospital in hopes that some spark of life yet remained, but the boy was dead.

Miss Reilly is the daughter of Mrs. Tessa Reilly, formerly of Kentfield, now residing in San Francisco. She was very well known in Marin County and graduated from Tamalpais High School.

Matli had resided in San Francisco also.
