CHARLES L. HICKS Dies on Monday
Stroke of Heart Failure Proves
Fatal to Spanish War Veteran
CHARLES L. HICKS, one of the best known residents of Fairfax, died last Monday evening at 10:20 as the result of a stroke of heart failure.
The attack came without warning, as he was apparently in the best of health all day Monday and during the early evening.
Funeral services are arranged for 10:30 Thursday morning at Keaton and Dusel Funeral Parlors in San Rafael. The cortage will leave this location at 11 o'clock for San Francisco, where interment will take place at the Presidio with full military honors.
The deceased was a native of New York state and came to Fairfax more than 20 years ago. During the intervening years, he was instrumental in the growth of the community. For a long time, he served as deputy sheriff in the days when such an appointment was a more or less hazardous occupation.
He was a Spanish American War Veteran, having served in the War. He followed the occupation of plumber and carpenter, although his work consisted of a general utility along mechanical lines.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha HICKS, who is librarian at the Fairfax Public Library, and 4 sons, Leonard, Arthur, John, and Kenneth, ranging in age from 16 to 23 years.
The deceased had a wide circle of friends not only in Fairfax, but throughout Marin County, whose sympathy and condolence will go out to the family in their bereavement.
