Mary Smyth

Funeral for Mrs. Mary Edith Smyth, former Ross resident will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Chapel of Roller and Hapgood, Palo Alto.

Mrs. Smyth, 88, died Saturday in a retirement home in Portola Valley, San Mateo County, following a short illness.

She came to Ross with her late husband, Dr. Thomas U. Smyth, following the San Francisco fire and earthquake in 1906.

Mrs. Smyth lived in Ross and for a short time in San Anselmo. In 1943 she moved to Stockton.

In Ross, she lived with her son, William B. Smyth, and assisted him on operating the Smyth Camellia Nursery at Thomas Court near Lagunitas Road.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Ross.

Surviving Mrs. Smyth are her son, William B. Smyth, of Saratoga; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Virginia Sears of Afghanistan, and Mrs. Margaret H. Roberts of Stockton; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Richards of Wheatland, Yuba County, and Mrs. Helen Fleming of San Francisco; and three grandchildren.

Inurnment will be in Oak Mound Cemetery, Healdsburg. The family requests that tributes be made in contributions to favorite charities.
