William L. Marsh

City flags in San Rafael were flying at half-staff today for William L. Marsh, 33-year-old fireman who died unexpectedly Saturday.

Marsh was found incapacitated in his bunk Friday morning at the fire department by paramedics who rushed him to a local hospital. He later was transferred to Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City where he underwent surgery. He died Saturday, apparently of an aneurism.

Marsh was born and reared in Marin County and graduated from Redwood High School in 1964. He held a degree from College of Marin in fire science.

From 1965 to 1969 he served as a weapons mechanic with the Air Force. He joined the fire department in 1972 and was an engineer.

Marsh like sports and was the star second baseman for the fire department's baseball team.

He lived in Petaluma.

Surviving are his son, Chris, and daughter, Laura; his mother, Florence Marsh, and sister, Deborah Green, both of San Rafael.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m.at Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael.
