JOHN D. SLOAT

John D. Sloat of Novato, electrician and active member of fraternal groups, died yesterday at a San Francisco hospital after a brief illness.

A native of San Francisco, Sloat, 66, spent his childhood there and in Chico, where he graduated from Chico High School.

He spent most of is adult years in San Francisco. About 14 years ago he moved to Novato.

Before retiring t here years ago, he served 40 years in civil service with the Army, Navy and government agencies. During that time he was an electrician at Hunters Point, Angel Island and the Presidio.

He was married for 39 years to Alice Sloat of Novato.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Loretto Council No. 3950; Court of Marin No. 1950 of the Independent Order of Foresters; the International Board of Electrical Workers Local No. 7; Novato Moose Lodge No. 2041 and SIRS.

Survivors are his wife; his sister, Gertrude Tomera of Napa, and a brother, Charles Sloat of Merced. Another brother, Warren Sloat is already deceased.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at Keaton’s Funeral Home at Novato.
