Deputy County Clerk Dies Wednesday Night

Arthur W. Studley, deputy county clerk of Marin county since 1917, died at the Ross General Hospital Wednesday night at 11 o’clock. His death came as a shock to him numerous friends in this county, but his attending physician, Dr. O. W. Jones of San Anselmo, who operated upon Mr. Studley, last Saturday forenoon, when a ruptured appendix was removed, held out little hope for recovery, because the day following the operation the patient developed a blood clot on the heart.

Together with his duties as Deputy Clerk, Studley was Town Recorder of the T own of San Anselmo, and for many years was City Clerk and City Assessor of that town.

He is survived by his wife, Francis Studley, a daughter, Miss Velma, and a mother, Mrs. Adaline Studley, who has reached her 91st year.

The funeral service will be held Saturday forenoon at 11 o’clock from the Sawyer Company parlor on E street. Rev. Ernest Bradley of the Episcopal church will officiate.

Arthur Studley was considered one of the most enthusiastic hunters and sportsmen in this section and never failed to come in with plenty of game when he went afield. The den at this home in San Anselmo is lined with the skins of animals and other evidence of the hunt. He was a most competent county official and thorough in every task undertaken.

The flag in front of the court house was at half mast today out of respect to the dead.
