WILLIAM J. WIDER
Retired chief petty officer
William “Bill” J. Wider, a 33-year resident of San Rafael, died Monday, Oct. 15, 1990, at Kaiser Hospital in Terra Linda. He was 83.
Mr. Wider was born in San Francisco.
He was a veteran of World War II and a retired chief petty officer of the U.S. Navy.
He was a past president and business agent for the Telephone Union in San Francisco for 40 years.
He was also a past commander of the Fifth District of the American Legion; past commander and member of Wilkins Post No. 37 the American Legion of San Rafael; and past Chef deGar Voiture No. 1112 Marin County 40 et 8.
Mr. Wider is survived by a son, William J. Wider Jr. of Calistoga; a sister, Olive Bonfilio of Fairfield; a brother, Fred E. Wider of Burlingame; and five grandchildren.
His wife of 40 years, Maxine Wider, died earlier this year.
At his request, no services will be held.
Inurnment will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.
Memorial gifts preferred to the American Legion Rehabilitation Fund.
Arrangements are by Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo.
