John M. Sims Answers Death Summons Sunday

A member of one of the old pioneer families of Marin County died last Sunday morning in San Francisco, when Death summoned John M. Sims.

His death was not sudden for he had been under the doctor’s care for some time and h is condition was declared serious. Friday, March 16, attending surgeons decided to operate in an effort to relieve the sufferer. Recovery was uncertain, and the following day Mr. Sims developed acute pneumonia, from which he died early on Sunday morning.

The body was brought to this city where funeral services were held under the auspices of the local lodge of Masons at the parlors of Keaton and Dusel at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, followed by services at the Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the family plot in Tamalpais Cemetery.

Masonic services were conducted by Past Grand Master George F. Rodden, and services at the Church were under the direction of Dr. Lynn T. White. Mrs. Raymond H. Thayer rendered two solos, accompanied on the pipe organ by Miss Phoebe MacKenzie.

With the passing of John Sims, Marin county has lost a most worthy citizen, and a family has been deprived of a strong and lovable character.

John Sims was born and reared in San Rafael. He was a charter member and graduate of the old Tamalpais Military Academy in 1886, and graduated from the University of California with the class of 1900. While a student, he took a leading part in athletics, excelling in baseball and sinning the “Big C.”

His father was one of the older groups of Masons, serving Marin Lodge for three years from 1875 to 1877. The son followed the senior Sims and was Master of Marin Lodge in 1914.

He leaves to mourn his passing a wife, Jennie B. Sims, a daughter, Mrs. Edward LeBaron of Healdsburg, and a young son, John Lynn Sims, who resides at home with his mother.

The Sims family left today noon to spend a few days at the home of the daughter, Mrs. LeBaron.
