MARY FLOYD MAYS
Marin City community worker
Mary Floyd Mays, a longtime Marin City resident and tireless community worker, died Monday, Jan. 15, 1990, at Marin General Hospital after a short illness. She was 67.
She was born in Pleasant Hill, Alabama and had lived in Marin City for 45 years.
Mrs. Mays spent many hours delivering hot meals to sick people and senior citizens in Marin City.
She was an active member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in San Francisco.
For 29 years she had worked as a clerk at the California General Linen Co. in San Francisco and then eight years as a custodian at the Tamalpais High School District.
Surviving are her mother, Allie Lee Floyd of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Herbert and McKinley Floyd, both of Pensacola; five sisters, Willie Lee Floyd Mitchell, Ernestine Floyd Thomas, Mary Floyd Vettis, Mildred Floyd Crosby and Syvilla Floyd Jessie, all of Pensacola; a stepdaughter, Diana Mays McCants of Richmond; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas Mays, died earlier.
The funeral will be today at 7 p.m. at the Russell and Gooch mortuary in Mill Valley. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Evergreen, Ala.
