PALMER, Robert F. M.D. - Passed away peacefully on April 1 at his home in Mill Valley. Born March 5, 1922 in Portland, OR, moved to San Francisco in 1934 and attended Redding Grammar School, Lowell High School, The University of California at Berkeley, and graduated from UCSF in 1946. He had a continuous affiliation with the Army from Citizens Military Training Camp at Fort Ord in 1938, including service in Italy and Trieste at the 7th Station Hospital as a 1st Lt. M.C. from 1947-1948, and in Japan and Korea as a Capt. M.C. as part of the Body Armor Research Team from which he produced a special Missile Casualty Survey Report on Body Armor, requested by the Surgeon General of the Army. During the Persian Gulf War, he served as a full time staff neurological surgeon at Letterman Army Medical Center in 1991. He was Chief of Neurological Surgery at Children's Hospital (now The California Campus of the California Pacific Medical Center) from 1969-1992, and was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of California Medical School, San Francisco. He was in private practice as a neurological surgeon in San Francisco from 1956 until his retirement in 1997. He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Melanie, eleven children, fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His children are Elizabeth Wade (Irwin) of Redding, CA, Ellen Gumucio (Dante) of Placentia, CA, Evan Scott Palmer of Mill Valley, CA, Eileen Jordan of Corte Madera, CA, Eric Palmer (Unni Marie) of Balestrand, Norway, Edward Palmer (Kerri) of Chicago, IL, Anne Peters (Timothy) of Chicago, IL, Robert Palmer III of Berkeley, CA, Georgia Palmer of Chicago, IL, and Margaret and James Palmer of Mill Valley, CA. His loving grandchildren are Harvey R. Klyce, Stephanie Klyce, Jordan Gumucio, Jessie Kitt, Alexandra, Brianna, Jackson, Erica, Beau, Charlotte, Kingdon, Victoria, Francesca, Sophia and Thomas Palmer, and one great-grandchild Christina Klyce. Friends are invited to attend the visitation Wednesday (today) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at RUSSELL & GOOCH FUNERAL CHAPEL in Mill Valley. Family and Friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, #3 Oakdale Ave., Mill Valley. Private family Graveside services will be Friday at Valley Memorial Park, Novato. Memorial gifts preferred to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, #3 Oakdale Ave., Mill Valley, CA 94941.
