Death Ends Holiday of Hiking Party
Lillian Urbansky Killed In Fall From Mt. Tamalpais Trail

The death of Miss Lillian Urbansky, a 16 year old San Francisco girl made a tragic ending of a happy holiday Tuesday when the girl fell from a steep trail near Muir Woods in plain view of six or seven boy and girl friends and struck her head against a ledge.

The girl was the daughter of Mrs. Israel Friedman of 1668 O’Farrell street. With her two sisters and a brother, Miss Freda, Miss Ricka and John Urbansky; Stanley Jacobson, Ernest Drake and Irving Cohn, the girl was “hiking” to Muir Woods. They carried their lunches and were just turning off the road to descend the steep trail leading down to the cabin of August Koch. Miss Urbansky caught the heel of her shoe suddenly and plunged over the side of the trail. Falling about ten feet, she struck her head on a sharp ledge.

Dr. R. A. Gilbride, on the veranda of his summer home, witnessed the accident and was the first to reach the girl. He found that she was beyond aid, having sustained a basic fracture of the skull.

Coroner F. E. Sawyer was notified by Jas. V. Chase, who was instructed to summon a jury to view the remains. Dr. J. H. Kuser performed an autopsy on the remains, after which the body was removed to the home of the sorrowing mother. The inquest will be held at the Coroner’s office here Friday night.

The girl was a former student at the San Francisco Commercial High School.
