Pioneer of Sausalito Died Friday
Life-time resident of Sausalito, Mrs. Mary Bettencourt, 72, died at her home last Friday. Funeral services were held at the Frank J. Keaton Mortuary early Tuesday morning, followed by mass at Star of the Sea Church.
Mrs. Bettencourt, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Silva, Sausalito pioneers, attended the first public school in the town of her birth in the days when food supplies were obtained by sailing to San Francisco.
She was the widow of Manuel A. Bettencourt and mother of Manuel H. and Andrew P. Bettencourt, Mrs. Edith Richburg and Mrs. Mary B. Smith, and the sister of Mrs. Josie S. Rosa and Mrs. Frances Campbell.
Rosary was recited Tuesday evening following interment at Fernwood cemetery.
