Sidney R. Wilson

Sidney R. Wilson of San Rafael, owner of two tutoring centers in Marin and a former school board candidate, died Wednesday in a car crash in San Rafael. He was 53.

Wilson was a native of Georgia. He attended the University of Chicago and earned a master's degree in business administration at the university.

He was in the Army during World War II and served in the South Pacificand the occupation forces in Japan.

He had lived in San Rafael for about eight years.

He was president of an educational material publishing firm in Marin before opening the Scholastic Achievement tutoring centers in San Rafael and Mill Valley.

He was a candidate in 1977 for the Dixie School District board. He also was active in citizens groups dealing with school issues.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; three sons, Mark R. Wilson of Chicago and Paul and Scott Wilson, both of San Rafael; and a daughter, Ann Wilson of San Rafael.

No services are planned. The family prefers memorialdonations to the Salvation Army.
