EDITH BATES
The funeral service for Edith Bates, 84, of San Rafael, a longtime Marin resident, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.
Mrs. Bates, a housewife, died Monday at a local convalescent hospital after an illness.
She was the widow of Charles Bates, a warehouseman. Mrs. Bates had been a resident of Tamalpais Valley from 1930 until two years ago, when she moved to San Rafael.
She was a native of Liverpool, England, who moved to the Unites States in the 1920s and lived in San Francisco for a few years before settling in Tamalpais Valley.
Surviving are a son, Philip Bates of San Rafael; two sisters, Maude Pilkington of Mill Valley and Margaret Coulson of San Rafael; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
