MARJORIE R. SUTTHOFF

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said for Marjorie R. Sutthoff of Mill Valley, a former longtime resident of Sausalito, 9:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Mill Valley.

She died Wednesday at Marin General Hospital. She was 80.

A native of Washington, she had been active in the civic and social life of Sausalito for 40 years. She had been living in Mill Valley since 1978.

She was a past president of the Marin County League of Women Voters and a member of the Sausalito Women’s Club for 40 years.

After her children were grown, Mrs. Sutthoff attended Dominican College in San Rafael to earn a teaching credential.

She previously had graduated from the University of Washington. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

She taught remedial reading in the Sausalito School District between 1951 and 1966.

During World War II, she taught Red Cross nutrition classes and served as a Grey Lady in the county.

Her father was a prominent lumberman in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.

She is survived by a son, Dr. John Sutthoff of Chico; a daughter, Katherine Sutthoff of San Francisco; two brothers, Fenwick Riley of Eureka and Wyman Riley of Vallejo; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth McGlinn of Greenbrae and Catharine Hill of San Diego; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
