JOHN O’CONNELL

John C. O’Connell, 74, of 122 Blackfield Drive, Tiburon, believed to be the oldest living native of Tiburon, was found dead on his bathroom floor at 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

Coroner Frank J. Keaton reported O’Connell died sometime between Friday and yesterday morning. An autopsy will be performed at Russell and Gooch Mortuary, he said.

O’Connell’s body was discovered by his brother, George R. O’Connell of 405 San Rafael Avenue, Belvedere, who became concerned because John did not make his customary Sunday morning visit, and decided to investigate.

George last heard from his brother when he received a telephone call Friday morning.

O’Connell, a retired stillman for Standard Oil Co. in Richmond, had worked for the company for about 40 years. He had lived in Richmond for many years, but returned to Tiburon when he retired in 1961.

O’Connell was a Navy veteran of World War I, a member of the Richmond Elks Lodge and of the Tyee Club in San Francisco.

Surviving are a son, Robert O’Connell of Sacramento, and the brother.
